Business Networking on ZeroToNetwork, Welcome!
Business networking is very powerful. You're visiting my networking Blog, so you probably
"get it". However, there was a time when I had no clue to the limitless potential.
That was remedied when I was asked to step into the Career Transition Zone.
To compound matters, I was an Introvert. No clue about networking and an introvert
- oh boy was I in trouble.
With the help of some dynamic individuals, I went from "Zero to Networking".
I was now able to walk up to strangers and introduce myself, and learn the ways
of the business networking world. Eventually, I led Networking groups, mentored (even
while unemployed), became an Executive Recruiter, met with entrepeneurs and senior
level executives -- and eventually - found a great new position. I became an
extroverted-introvert. I became...connected! Zero to Networking!
Networking is very powerful! Oh yes - I made tons of mistakes, learned from
them and made different mistakes... and still, am not an expert. Who is?
That is the objective of the Zero To Network Blog, so we can learn from each other. Enjoy! Networking
is also fun! Stephen Harris

Business Networking Faux-Pas
This dog-eared USA Today snapshot has been with me since May 2003. It brings up some very good points we should keep in mind, as we go from Zero to a great Network.

source: OfficeTeam survey of 613 full time workers.
Burning Bridges: When I was let go from my last company, I had many many reasons to be bitter and angry. We all would. Then, a year later, that same organization and even the same senior management were my clients at my current company. And I couldn't be happier! Imagine if I lashed out in anger! In fact, I recently helped my old company to establish a process that has been my holy-grail since my days within! Don't burn your bridges, for they may lead you back to something better.
Keep in touch with contacts: Recall in a prior Blog entry we talked about classifying your contacts and maintaining contact. Even a quick hello keeps the lights burning.
Not thanking people: This is a huge pet-peeve for me. If someone does right by you, send a thank you. Remember, I am the person that sent thank you notes when rejected from a job. Thank you notes go a long way to building and maintaining a strong relationship. Your welcome!
Not asking for help: I am not sure I agree that this is the number one faux-pas. However, when you are in need, and you have a network - ask for help. It's ok - we all need assistance. Don't forget to say thank you -- and don't forget to be there when she asks for help!
By then I ask, why post this clipping on the ZeroToNetwork Blog? As readers of this Blog - you do not make these faux-pas; do you?
